My Mums Mother’s Day Card

It’s become something of a tradition now that on “Special Days” I show you the card that my profoundly handicapped brother Stephen has “made” at his unit …..
2012 Mothers day card
This year he has gone for “the more the better, if it’s on the table, then use it” style of card making, with an extra large dollop of glitter for good measure!

When Stephen comes home on his bus and the coach guide hands my mum a large lumpy envelope it is always an exciting and slightly emotional occasion. We are under no illusions that Stephen has contributed much towards the card, but we know that he has sat beside his member of staff at the table and watched them putting it together for him. They have probably put a flower in his hand, guided it to where it should go and then helped him press it down, talking to him all the time, the thought of which brings a tear to your eye. His staff are so wonderful, their patience and caring holds no bounds ……. and we cannot thank them enough and I just don’t think they will ever know how much these cards mean to us.

Glassine Favour Bags

Glassine Favour 3
I love glassine bags, just the feel of them makes me go all gooey (but each to his own!) and this was one of the ideas I had in mind when I was stockpiling heart shaped chocolates  from Valentines Day to use for other occasions.
Glassine Favour 1
This bags contain four hearts or four ladybirds and measure 9.5cm (plus a 1.5cm fold over) x 6.5cm. All I have done is punch two small holes to thread a ribbon through. and then added a few self adhesive foam flowers and paper lace and small stickers.

I am thinking that these would be lovely for Mother’s Day, or as a small Thank You gift, or even an end of term present for a child to give their teacher perhaps.

My Brother’s Mother’s Day Card

Stephens Mothers Day Card
My  “Special” brother bought this home for my mum from his Care Centre on Friday – it is the most beautiful Mother’s Day card in the world!

My Mum’s Mother’s Day Card

While we were out shopping a couple of weeks ago my mum saw a cuddly frog with wings in a shop window and said “I want a frog with wings” …… well this is what I came up with ……..
Flying Frog card
I have used a self adhesive foam frog from a children’s pack (they may have been from Hobbycraft, but I’m not 100% sure), a padded gold wing, cut in half and a pair of googly eyes.  I made the background using oddments of Bazzill paper and doodling.

Quite, quite mad but cute!

Little Handbag Gift Boxes

Picture 005
I feel that this is really a bit of a cheat as there is no real crafting in this project, it’s just a matter of putting things together, to make a quick gift, using things I have already got.
Picture 003
The bags are wedding favor boxes from HobbyCraft, they cost £1.99 for ten, which I think is a bargain.  They come in different colours, I have two sets; brown and cream and black and white, I think they also do them in pastel pink and blue
Picture 006
The stickers are from The Poundshop, they have a metallic finish and come in very useful when I need an odd sticker or two, and the ribbons are just remnants, usually I would match them up very carefully, but this time the random approach has worked.
Picture 010
In each bag I have put four of the Asda chocolate hearts (£1.00 for 10) my sister found me last week.
I reckon each bag has cost me no more than 35p to make (including for stickers and ribbon)  – bargain!
With Mother’s Day coming up this is a nice little idea for school fayres etc.
