I Do A No Show ......

I was asked in a comment from Di how I got on at my second, local, craft fair in September .... my apologies, I forgot to post to say that in the end I pulled out, but giving the organiser plenty of time to fill my table, if they had anyone champing at the bit on their waiting list.

After the first one, the more I thought about it, the more I knew I really didn't have the get up and go to gather all my bits together again to man a table, for little, if any, return.  The venue is in a side street, all be it across the road from a car park, but people just walked by heading into town and then if anyone did venture in I got a few remarks saying that it was too early for Christmas! It was soul destroying,

However, thank goodness I hadn't gone overboard, making anything especially for the fair,  I was simply selling stuff left over from last years festive crafting, e.g snowman in walnut shells etc. So, I've sorted everything out and instead of having to make a whole pile of new fairing gifts (to give in place of a Christmas card) this year, I'm going to put a couple of these bits together, along with one of the tiny Christmas bottle decorations I made when I stayed with Marc in the summer ...... and if there's still some spare, I will give them to Iris and Bertie for their traditional "Random Acts of Christmas Kindness" to drop off on the way home from school throughout December ........ so though initially disappointed, it's now a win, win situation, because in return I've gained untold hours of not having to craft quite as much as I would normally do at this time of year, happy days!

It seems you made the right choice. I've done fairs and been very disappointed in the earnings--after all that work! Now I sell my cards to a thrift store and donate the proceeds to their community assistance program. Much more satisfying!

Grateful for update, cheers... totally get yr decision! Its as brave to know when to knock it on the head - as it is to martyr on I sometimes feel! (Served as learning experience, inspirational to us also) Glad you got to divert yr efforts into alternative directions Helen - interesting that you do RAOK with I&B + fairing gifts in place of cards - love that. Thanks, Di xo

I bet you felt so relieved, without the pressure. Good for you for making the decision that was right for you.
