Toast-ally Mad! - Post-It Note Holder

This is such a daft idea, it’s a small Post-It Note fridge magnet!
tOAST1
I can’t claim that it’s my idea, just my paper version of a something I saw while Googling.
 tOAST2
I’ve printed off two pictures of a slice of toast,  the first one I have stuck onto a firm piece of card, the second I have layered on top with foam pads to give a bit of dimension.
tOAST 4
I have then stuck on a small block of post it notes and a strip of self adhesive magnet on the back.

I am thinking that the Post It block could also be cheese ......... so I might have a go with a cracker tomorrow!!!!

Any other ideas welcome .....

What’s On My Desk Wednesday

Picture 057
I got this "what not" stand on Saturday from a second hand stall on Bridgnorth Market for £4, I couldn’t resist it.  I am going to paint it the same colour as my craft room (magnolia) and put even more of my treasures on it!!!
Picture 060
Also on my desk is this mini kilner jar. I got a box of 8 from the Range, for about £6.99. I think they are originally for spices but I want to do something “cute” with them …… it’s on my desk so that  I will keep looking at it and hopefully inspiration will eventually hit me!  I want to put a fairy in it … something like that …….
Desk Wednesday
The playing cards are on my desk as I have a Valentines idea brewing…….
I have just filled my lovely pink pencil case with all my “posh” fountain pens.  I used to use them all the time a few years ago and then got out of the habit, so one of my New Year’s Resoloutions is to use them again as they make you writing look so good.
You may have spotted my reading glasses too.  I have so many pairs (because I am always putting them down) – 1.50 strength, usually from Primark or Poundshops, the fancier the better – these ones are zebra print!  I wear strong contact lenses but I am finding for close up work I need an extra boost.  The best ones I have ever had had “diamonds” on a leopard print frame, from Liverpool Docks.  I loved them so much, but the “diamonds” fell out quite quickly.  They were only about £2.99 and I am constantly on the look out for more!

Embossed Thank You Card

Purple Thank You
I used my Sizzix Boutique Embossing Machine and the flower embossing die that came with it to make this simple “Thank You” card.
Close Up Purple Thank you
I’ve filled in the petals of the flowers with Hero Arts hologram glitter and added a purple flat back gem to the centres.

Dr. Who Card

I made this card just before Christmas for, quite obviously a Dr Who fan.
dr who
I printed the pictures, cut them out and decoupaged them very simply, i.e. The Doctor’s coat and the planets.
Dr Who Card
I added a bit of Anita’s 3D clear gloss finish to the planets and Tardis.  Finishing touches are a smidgen of Hero Arts hologram glitter and small pale blue stars.

Glass Bead Bracelets

This is what I have been fiddling with while I've been watching festive tele!
Bracelets Tree
I have made these bracelets to put away in case there are any craft fayres in the New Year that I am asked to have a stall at. This will be a new venture for me so I want to make sure I have a good stock.
Bracelets Close Up
The camera is merciless and I have just noticed a few ends that need trimming before I put them in display bags!

The beads are from assorted sets from Hobbycraft costing about £5 - 6 each  and are threaded on the transparent elastic thread.

The jewellery stand was a gift from my daughter from Convent Garden in September. If you Google "bird tree jewellery stand" in images it does come up, but I am afraid only in black, but I don't see why you couldn't  spray paint it, if you didn't fancy black.

Last Minute Magnetic Fridge Calendars

Bee Calendar
Aghh, I remembered I had a packet of unused calendar tabs in one of my drawers and that if I didn’t do anything with them quick they would be of no use.
Ladybird calendar
So this is what I came up with, I made a couple of each design
Mouse Calendar
I covered blank beer mats with American Crafts paper from their “Kids” range. I’ve had  the wooden embellishments and mini bulldogs clips for years, and as I am on a New Year’s economy drive I am dead chuffed I have used them at last.
Mushroom calendar
I have stuck a magnetic strip on the back of each calendar.
I got the mini bulldog clips in assorted colours from E-bay quite a while ago but I have found these  (pink)) which are available at the moment (02.01.10). The gentleman also has red ones which would be ideal for Valentine projects - in fact while I was there I got me a box!

Happy New Year – It’s 2010!

Our Family New Year’s Makes ……
Look what I had …….
paperc
My lovely sister Jan decorated our lounge for Christmas  with paperchains, all hand punched beautifully with holly as one of her makes and she also made these post-it-note holders for my husband and I. I am thrilled with mine.

My husband made us all pocket sundials, how brilliant are they?

My daughter Lucy made me a box of chocolates that said Happy New Year, but some of the icing fell off on the way home, but still very scrummy.

She also made some chocolate dipping sticks, yum, yum, yum!

Desert Island Crafts Part 7

Bigshot
I swopped my Cuttlebug (which I’d had for about two years) for a Big Shot after seeing it being demonstrated at the NEC with the Sizzix XL Bigz box dies – when I saw the sorts of boxes I would be able to make I was hooked!
I sold my Cuttlebug on E-bay for about the same as what I had paid for it, so I was well chuffed. I also sold two alphabet sets (which I now regret selling), this all enabled me to buy the Big Shot, a pair of extension plates and a couple of dies with very little expenditure.
The box contains my Nestablities dies – my mate Lisa nagged me for ages to get some and now I wouldn’t be without them, especially for sweetie bag tops.
The blue handbag in the corner is the new Sizzix embosser, I haven’t used it a great deal, but I intend to use it this week to make some Thank You cards.

New Year’s Family Tradition

SORRY THIS IS A LONG ONE ………….
Midnight feast
It’s a family tradition that we busy ourselves in the days after Christmas making small gifts for the people we will be seeing the New Year in with, which is usually very close family, so it’s not too daunting a task.  It all came about 10 years ago when my daughter Lucy, then a teenager,  declared that she didn’t like New Year, as it was an anti-climax and boring.
The planning and plotting starts after Boxing Day (sometimes before)….. in some ways it’s even more exciting and thought provoking than Christmas Day
Featured in this post are the gifts I have made, some ideas you may have seen before  ….. I just hope no one in the family peeps at it before the event…..
Picture 107
I made this bag for Laura (my sons girlfriend) using a Hobbycraft cotton bag, decorated with felt flowers (Sizzix die on BigShot) and button centres.
Lu's scarf
I knit this scarf for Lucy using two balls of mohair wool that I got from a car boot sale, the massive  button  came from a brilliant button shop in one of the beautiful old arcades in Cardiff.
Jans bagJans bells
My sister’s bag is a bit of a cheat as I  got it from Vistaprint as a freebie (you just pay P & P).  All  I did was choose the text – my sister is the world’s best shopper , she never gives up until her quarry is in her bag!  I have added flat back pearl stars, because she is a star and three red jingle bells  on  the handle so that people can hear her coming and get out of her way!!!!!
Lucy and Laura's calendarsLucy and Laura's pegs
Lucy and Laura are also going to get a fridge magnet calendar and set of pegs each.
Tom's Post It Note Holder
Tom, my son will be getting  a fridge magnet post-it note holder and pen.  A beer mat makes the base.  I have added a very thin piece of magnetic tape to the pen and clip so that the pen stays in place.  I have embellished it with transparent footprint stickers as identifying shoeprints is part of his job.  The magnetic clips were a bargain.  I saw the exact same pack  of 4 in a posh  shop in Manchester at over £5, these were from Home Bargains– 79p – result!
Colins TinColin's pennies
I have recovered a Poundland tin moneybox for my Father In Law and decorated it with odd self adhesive letters to say “Colin’s Pennies”  and gold stars.
Gone Fishing Notes.calendar
Gone Fishing Tiles Close UpPicture 561
This is my husbands gift, a magnetic post-it note holder and  calendar to hang on his filing cabinet.   The self adhesive tiles are from a pack of fishing embellishments I have had for ages that resemble the scales on fish.
Pallette
This artist palette post-it-note holder is for my Brother In Law’s desk – he is at Uni doing Art.  The palette was from Poundworld and also came with several paintbrushes, two of which I have glued on.  The circles of paint are bazzill paper, cut using a large circle punch.
I am quite impressed with the palette and may get a couple more to use for other ideas.
Notebooknotebook1
I’m not sure if this counts, but I treated myself to a beautiful notebook to jot my ideas down and stick pictures of things that inspire me during the year, and I could not resist gluing some beautiful (and quite expensive) flat backed jewels on for extra bling. The picture doesn’t really do it justice!
If it isn’t being to presumptuous, tomorrow, I hope to show you the things that have been made for me.

What’s On Your Desk Wednesday

Whats on Your desk
My craft room is finally my own again, not that I am grumbling because having a bulging house this Christmas was wonderful. I have put some of my new craft stuff on my desk before I find a home for everything.  I have been very very spoiled.
The sewing machine has a zig zag stitch that I am hoping to use on my cards, I just need to master threading it first.  The hot gun is for sealing wax and seals, very very exciting!  The sidekick will let me use my small dies without getting out my BigShot and the huge Sizzix dies are more boxes with Easter and birthdays in mind!  There is also a new set of Nestablities labels for amongst other things sweet bag tops.
As I said, I am very spoiled.

The little man is called  One Man Try Tape  Dispenser and was a present from my mum. A couple of people have commented on how cute he is so I have found him here  (amongst other places) for £12.99

In answer to Ali's question, yes, I do use my Nesties on the Big Shot, I can usually cut through three layers of a thinish card if I am making bag toppers etc.

Desert Island Crafts – Part 6

gem drawer
This is my gem drawer.  I cannot have enough flat back gems and pearls.  Paperchase gems are the best value I have ever found at £2.75 for a pot of over 200.
cotton buds
My desk isn’t complete without cotton buds for tidying up blobs of glue and an assortment of mini pegs for keeping boxes together while the glue dries.
CARD STACK
This is my stock of white and silver card.  They are directly to my right when I sit at my desk so that I can select what I want easily.
I get all my white and cream card from The Papermill Shop online in a Megabox, usually in white or ivory linen.  I get through at least 4 boxes a year!
I cut all my own card blanks so that I can can get just the right size for my envelopes.
