Christmas 2018 Tree Decorations For Iris And Bettie

This post is not for the faint hearted!!!!! I forgot to take a picture of the unadorned decorations below before I started Fiddle Farting with them. I am pretty sure that they came from Poundland (this year) and I have to admit that when I got them out again to work on them I did think “strueth what on earth was I thinking”. Cast crudely in resin, they are rather clunky and lacking in any finesse, with a  very clumsy scattering of gold glitter.  These are true sow’s ears, with little chance of ever  becoming silk purses.!!!

However, as I’d originally bought the decorations with the idea of putting the little expressions of love I use with Iris and Bertie in the middle, I thought I had better try to salvage something from them.
IMG_9904I love you to the moon and back tree decoration
Iris’s is a pretty common and popular sentiment, just with the bit about the deep blue sea tagged on to the end.  Bertie’s is just pure Bertie. I was teasing him one day saying that I only loved him a teeny weeny weeny bit when he got all aggrieved declaring “No ….. a big much bit!” and it stuck.

I did the printing in DanielleFancyFont using Publisher. I then filled or covered some of the holes, gaps, lumps and bumps with a green and purple flat back gems, finally adding a narrow red ribbon to hang them by.

Not my finest hour I know  ……. laughs out loud! It’s the sentiment that counts and, for Bertie especially, you just can’t have too much glitter or sparkle.  It’s also given me a few ideas on how to repeat the exercise, only much more tastefully for next year perhaps!

Christmas Elf Covered Lollipops

These are the Christmas Elf covered lollipops I made for Bertie’s Nursery Fayre.  The pompoms didn’t stick properly so in the end I removed them all, which was properly for the best as they could have been seen as a choking hazard.

I started by cutting some white card oblongs and scoring them in order to cover the chocolate lollies I had bought (I don’t like boiled lollies for littlies).
IMG_9392
After scoring I added the “Naughty or Nice” sentiment and some faux stitching, before adding a layered circle made using a scalloped edge and plain circle punches.
IMG_9393
The self adhesive, felt elf came in a pack of 6 for 69p from Home Bargains.
IMG_9397
The elf was then stuck over the circle on the cover.

I was going to secure the cover with a ribbon threaded through the card, as I have in the past, but the elf’s feet got in the way and the whole effect looked messy, so in the end I settled for a mini staple in the two bottom corners.

I could have embellished and fiddle farted a little bit more, but then I thought that once given the lollies would be eaten and the rest would probably end up in the bin, so best save any extra embellishment and my time for a more “keepable” project.

Christmas Advent Drawers – Finally Finished

As promised yesterday …… the great unveil ……..
Advent DRawers THe Works
I was a bit wary of colouring the drawer dividers in blue, wondering if it would look too much and worrying that my Sharpie pen might run out half way through ……

……… but I think it’s worked.
Advent Drawers 3Advent Drawers 4
I covered the sides and top with scraps of blue papers with a touch of red here and there, going round them with faux stitching.

I glittered sixteen wooden snowflakes, putting a smaller, plastic ones in the middle. Eight snowflakes were then equally spaced down each side of the drawers, along with a scattering of small gold stars.

I did the same to the top, but without the snowflakes, which would give the opportunity to balance something else on if you fancied.
Advent Drawers
This Advent calendar isn’t probably not going anywhere until next year, but before it is bubble wrapped and safely put away I think I will give the top, sides and dividers a couple of  coats of varnish just to seal them a little bit more.
I have another two sets of drawers in the cupboard waiting to be done, so I think my Advent Drawer Tuesday posts are set to continue in 2019.

Advent Drawer Tuesday

That’s it the last few Advent drawers are in the bag …… thank goodness, it was beginning to make me go even more cross eyed than I usually am!
reindeer advent drawer
I had to re-do the reindeer drawer (above) because where I had originally positioned it was in the middle of a row and there was the distinct risk of breaking an antler every time the drawer on either side was opened.
Robin advent drawer
But the last four came together really well, in fact I had them all done one morning before I did the morning nursery run ……

I swear my step was lighter as I walked along!

I always try to schedule posts a little in advance …… so tomorrow I can finally bring you the completed article ….. my work is done!

Heads Up To Poundland – Crafty Cards & Snow Globe Stickers

As promised yesterday a couple more treasures found in the seasonal bargain baskets of Poundland in Worcester.
IMG_9601IMG_9600
The self adhesive snow globe bubble stickers were too good to ignore, but I was restrained and only bought two different design packs as I didn’t have a clear idea at the time as to what I could do with them ………
IMG_9602
…… however, they appear to be quite robust with very usable designs, so perhaps small simple square cards or gift tags?
The other treasure was a pack each of these snowmen and penguin cards (there was also a Santa design too) with Iris and Bertie and of course Nanny in mind. They are of a fantastic glossy quality and for just £1 a pack I know I had a bargain.  They didn’t come with envelopes but that’s fine,  I have whole box of the things that I can sort through.
IMG_9646
The packs came with everything you need, googly eyes, pom poms, glitter glue, and sticky pads to attach the heads and give the characters a 3D element.
IMG_9648
I would also add white micro glitter to the penguins hats and red to the snowmen’s hat band and scarves.  They are so cute and crazy value for money.  If  we/I don’t get to do them this year they’ll certainly save for next.
IMG_9649
As I said I was restrained in my purchasing, despite the prices, because I no longer craft in the large quantities I once used to.  However, I am still aware that if you see something you fancy then you’re best making a considered purchase there and then because you can bet that they’ll have disappeared by the time you realise that you really should have got them!

Heads Up To Poundland 1 – Paper Pads

I popped into one of the two Poundland shops  in Worcester town centre and was really chuffed with the 6ins x 6ins Christmas paper pads I found.  I very nearly missed them as they were in the seasonal quick sale baskets in the middle of the shop rather than on the crafty shelves.
IMG_9603
I bought four pads, although I think there were more to chose from, going for the ones that contained designs and colours that I thought would be the most versatile and “me”.
IMG_9605IMG_9606IMG_9604IMG_9607
My favourite was the Cosy Christmas pad, (5 x 6 designs), because all the designs look like knitting samples and as such I am already thinking of a very simple patchwork card with a little faux stitching or using a page on its own to cover the front of a card blank with a simple printed sentiment in the middle.  I am quite excited to get playing.
IMG_9616IMG_9619IMG_9620
The embossed paper pack was exceptional value, the embossing is really deep and the paper/card thick and glossy (5 x 6 designs).
IMG_9617IMG_9618
The Scandi style reindeer and bird pages are again a card on their own when stuck to the front of a card blank with perhaps a careful application of translucent or white micro glitter here and there.
IMG_9609IMG_9610IMG_9611IMG_9612
Elves aren't really my thing, but with the elf on the shelf is becoming more and more popular I think there is a card or two among these designs when I have get the time to experiment. I particularly like the Kraft colour as I have a few Kraft card blanks that really need using up.
IMG_9614IMG_9615
The Jolly Christmas pad is “so so” ……. useful as a spare. My favourite designs are definitely the snowmen and penguins.
And ….. there were a few more bits of crafty treasure …… but more of that tomorrow.

Staircase in Fat Face – Worcester

If I want to do any “big” shopping now I go to Worcester, it’s only about 16 - 20 minutes away on the train and the station is right in the middle of the town so not a lot of walking to where I want to get to .
IMG_9225
……. and this is a delight I discovered in Fat Face, the clothes store, in the High Street ……
IMG_9227
It’s sooooooo gorgeous, and soooooooo me, if I had stairs this is exactly what I would have, life is too short!
IMG_9226
The tiles are all old so I reckon that they originally came from one or several of  the potteries, many now sadly gone, in Worcester.  It’s stunning and I have a very serious case of tile envy!
